Sotheby’s London sale

First Growths, Grands Crus and Exceptional Whisky

Sotheby’s London sale

Sotheby’s London sale of Finest and Rarest Wines, Spirits and Vintage Port featuring an Important Private Collection on 20 September 2017 runs to 909 lots with a total estimated value of £1.9 to £2.4 million.

The lead collection encompasses an array of Bordeaux First Growths, Super Seconds and top Right Bank wines from the outstanding 2000 and 2005 vintages. Highlights include Mouton 2000 in Jeroboam and both Petrus and Lafleur 2005. An impressive range of DRC features La Tâche and Romanée Conti 2005 alongside sought-after Bonnes Mares and Musigny Vieilles Vignes from de Vogüé in vintages from 2005 to 2010. Other notable Burgundy producers include Hudelot-Noëllat, Marquis d’Angerville and Robert Arnoux. Super Tuscans Sassicaia and Ornellaia are on offer in bottles and magnums as well as gems from Romano dal Forno.

From an immaculate cellar of impeccable provenance comes a stunning range of large format Bordeaux, including double magnums of Lafite and Lafleur from the acclaimed 1982 vintage and Jeroboams of Mouton 1986. A rare cache of superb White Burgundy from the 1980s and 1990s includes Chevalier Montrachet 1989 and 1992 from Leflaive. A glittering selection of Champagne features Bollinger Brut Vintage 1975 in Jeroboam, Krug 1988 and 1990 and magnum cases of Salon 1990. Parcels of Taylor and Fonseca 1977 will entice Port lovers.

A further connoisseur’s collection centres on prestigious Burgundy and Rhône, with a case of Clos de la Roche 1989 from Dujac and 12 bottles of Griotte Chambertin 1990 from Domaine des Chézeaux among the standout lots. Highly desirable cases of Château Rayas 1989 and a rare early vintage of Rayas, the 1974, should send paddles aloft.

Elsewhere, stellar Bordeaux includes Haut Brion 1989, Cheval Blanc 1998, Petrus 2000 and La Mission 2005. A DRC Assortment case from the 2000 vintage and La Romanée 2002 from Bouchard Père & Fils are singularly spectacular Burgundy lots.

A final mention must go to the bottle of The Dalmore, The 12 Pointer, Aged 62 Years, one of just 12 released in 2002. Each bottle is named after a key element in the company’s history, with ‘The 12 Pointer’ honouring the iconic stag emblem. This exceptional whisky is presented in a beautiful wooden case, with a certificate signed by master distiller, Richard Paterson.
