HONG KONG, 20 September 2018 – Sotheby’s is thrilled to present our second season of Panorama: A New Perspective, a major selling exhibition of over 40 paintings and sculpture from some of the most influential artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Featuring seminal works spanning 150 years of art history, the upcoming exhibition traces the aesthetic development of Modern art throughout Europe and into the United States, and towards the Contemporary abstract art informed by its predecessors. The show offers major works by established masters such as Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Edgar Degas, Willem de Kooning and Joan Mitchell, all available for immediate private sale. Together, the works are valued in excess of US$100 million, with a range of estimates starting at US$50,000.

Patti Wong, Chairman, Sotheby’s Asia, comments: “Sotheby’s Asia is delighted to present an outstanding selection of Western Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary works for the second instalment of Panorama in Hong Kong. We build on the tremendous response we received from our exhibition in March this year and our commitment to growing the interest in and the market of Western art in Asia - both through auctions and private sales. This two-pronged strategy enables us to cater to the diverse collecting tastes and needs of our clients in this region.”

In the first half of 2018, private sales across Sotheby’s were up 63% to US$543 million, with the number private sale transactions in the Global Fine Art Division up 76%. In Hong Kong alone, private sales reached nearly US$90 million—the greatest total in a decade. This immense growth is the result of our continued dedication to this segment of the art market, our expanding network of international clients, and the capabilities and members of our growing team.
