SALE IN GENEVA ON 14 NOVEMBER 2018
Geneva/Hong Kong, 28 September 2018 – Today, Sotheby’s is excited to unveil additional highlights from one of the most important royal Jewellery collections ever to be presented at auction. On 14 November, 2018, in Geneva, Royal Jewels from the Bourbon Parma Family will be offered at auction for the first time, including treasures which belonged to France’s ill-fated queen, Marie Antoinette (1755–1793). During an international tour of public exhibitions in the coming weeks, jewellery-lovers will be able to view these historic jewels, which carry with them more than 200 years of European history.
An initial announcement in June captured the world’s imagination, when it was revealed that Sotheby’s would offer this extraordinary collection of treasures in Geneva. The sale includes pieces which can be traced back to Marie Antoinette – led by an extraordinary diamond and natural pearl pendant estimated at $1-2 million, as well treasures from her brother-in-law, King Charles X of France (1757-1836), the Archdukes of Austria and the Dukes of Parma (June 13 press release available here).
Today in Hong Kong, we reveal further details of the collection: additional lots in the sale which can be traced back to Marie Antoinette, as well as major pieces with connections to the imperial family of Austria. Attached are details which confirm the exceptional quality of the collection and deepen our understanding of the family’s rich and illustrious history. Altogether, the collection to be offered on 14 November includes 10 jewels which belonged to Marie Antoinette.
