Of 20th century material, his particular speciality, Benoist Drut of Maison Gerard commented, "We sold across the board and to all new clients!" Highlight sales included a pair of tall, rosewood chests by Jules Leleu (1883-1961) with an asking price of $68,000 and a five piece suite of seat furniture by Paul Follet (1877-1941) made in France circa 1915, comprising a daybed and a set of four bergères in richly carved giltwood and black lacquer, which came from a private French collection in the Northeast of France and sold against an asking price $125,000.

Leading London fine art dealer Colnaghi showed a selection of works from the major schools of European paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries, with Katrin Bellinger presenting an important selection of Old Master drawings alongside the paintings. Konrad Bernheimer of Colnaghi commented that it was a very interesting fair with some important sales to new clients including an early (1785) Orientalist painting by Jean-Jacques-François Le Barbier (Rouen 1738-1826 Paris) titled A Female Turkish Bath or Hammam. (asking price $675,000) and A View of Venice, by the German painter Friedrich Nerly, (1807 Erfurt-1878 Venice).

Blitz Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art (Netherlands) sold a major highlight of their collection: an 8th century Sancai pottery egg. Three-color ware, or Sancai, was one of the greatest contributions of the Tang Dynasty. No dynasty before, and none since, has been so prolific in the development and production of this magnificent art form. Many Sancai figures, including of animals were produced. Sancai pieces have been found in many of the more affluent tombs of the Tang period.

Michael Goedhuis of Goedhuis Contemporary (New York), the pioneer in Chinese contemporary art sold an exceptional piece of sculpture by Li Chen (b. 1963) for $425,000. Goedhuis also sold a series of photos by Irene Kung of Rome and Paris for $3,750 each.

Brian Haughton Gallery (London) enjoyed an excellent fair commenting "the market is still wide open for important objects from all areas." Sales among a wide range of English and Continental porcelain including an extremely rare Meissen covered milk jug, circa 1728 (shown right) painted in the manner of Christian Frederich Herold with a winter scene showing travelers meandering through a village. In addition, Brian Haughton Gallery sold Worcester cream jugs and teapots, Meissen figures, Worcester Flight, Barr & Barr porcelain, and Italian soft paste porcelain. On opening night they sold a stunning pair of large architectural finials to a new collector for a five-figure sum.

It was a very successful fair for Kentshire Galleries (NY). Among the items sold were a painted George II breakfront bookcase from the collection of Charles Powlett (c. 1718-1765), 5th Duke of Bolton, for Hackwood Park. The Duke was a British soldier, nobleman and Whig politician. Kentshire also sold an extremely rare pair of Newton's pocket globes in mahogany cases.

Arlie Sulka, owner of Lillian Nassau (NY) commented "Overall the fair was very successful for our gallery. Clients whom we met at previous fairs returned specifically to visit our booth to make purchases from the wide array of late 19th and early 20th century objects we displayed. They expected to see us here and were not disappointed. We also met new collectors who are looking forward to visiting our gallery on 57th Street and will make the next Haughton International Fair a destination point. Sales were strong, particularly for Art Nouveau ceramics, and of course, for Tiffany, the mainstay of Lillian Nassau LLC. "

Ronald Phillips Ltd. (London) dealers in 18th and 19th century furniture and decorations had a successful fair selling an exceptional English wine cooler from 1750, which was made for the Dukes of Hamilton at Hamilton Palace. Hamilton Palace was the largest private non-royal residence in Britain before its demolition in the 1920s. The original Baroque dining room at Hamilton Palace can today be seen in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Also sold at the fair, a rare pair of Matthew Bolton candlesticks. Matthew Bolton (1728-1809) was one of great industrialists of the Industrial Revolution and, inventor of the steam engine with James Watt and friend to the young Thomas Jefferson.

New exhibitor Phoenix Ancient Art (NY and Geneva, Switzerland) enjoyed an excellent fair. Bibiane Choi, Director of Phoenix commented, "For our first time exhibiting at this fair, we have been very happy with the results. The crowd the fair attracts is extremely focused and the collectors have been quite open to learning more about ancient cultures. They have also expressed an interest in diversifying their collecting tastes, especially in juxtaposing contemporary art with ancient art to create an eclectic mix. As a result, Egyptian and Near Eastern art have been very popular."

S.J. Shrubsole had their best fair ever, commenting that this was an exceptional year for fine silver. Shrubsole offered a major private collection of early silver drinking vessels from 1680-1730.

Raffety & Walwyn (London) sold a variety of important clocks including a George III period red and cream lacquer musical bracket clock with a choice of four tunes, circa 1765 (shown above right).
