Bellmans sells one of the most desirable Phantom Rolls-Royce Classic Cars in April Auction

On 21st April 2021 Bellmans sold one of the first B-series Phantoms produced. This luxurious model was believed to have represented Rolls-Royce in the 1963 Earl’s Court Motor Show and the hammer went down at £30,000 (£33,750 with premium) and sold to a UK private buyer.

This black and yellow Phantom V had all the luxuries of its time and was equipped with a refrigerated boot, a two way telephone, privacy screen and even fitted decanters and glasses. Unlike the Phantom IV which was basically only made for royalty, the V model was sold to non-royals as well and as such attracted famous owners like John Lennon.

The studio sale of paintings by local Hampshire artist Laurie Norman raised almost £5,000 and attracted mostly UK collectors and dealers. It was part of the picture auction on the 20th April and offered an opportunity to buy some affordable abstract paintings. Laurie particularly concentrated on the use of line and faceted coloured areas to suggest dynamic movement and to also explore tension between adjacent fragmented shapes to form abstracted structured design.

Another lot that was brought in by a local vendor and sold for four times its low estimate was a pair of Meissen figure groups from the late 19th century. Modelled as a boy and girl feeding chickens and geese and their young. Estimated at £400 - £600, the lot achieved a hammer price of £1,600 (£1,952 with premium) and went to a local private collector.

Other notable sales included an enamelled Art Nouveau pendant with a floral spray motif on a blue enamelled ground with turquoise and freshwater pearl from circa 1905 sold for £1,700 (£2,074) against an estimate of £300 - £500.
