NEW YORK, 15 February 2017 – Sotheby’s S|2 gallery is pleased to announce Now You See Me, an exhibition of works by nine of the most celebrated female artists of the 20th century that spans four continents and a hundred years of creative output. Assembled together for the first time, these works reveal the aesthetic and ideological kinship of works by Lynda Benglis, Louise Bourgeois, Barbara Hepworth, Frida Kahlo, Tamara de Lempicka, Joan Mitchell, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mira Schendel and Tsuruko Yamazaki – particularly in their shared relationship to the landscape. Now You See Me is now open to the public in New York through 5 March 2017.
Elizabeth Goldberg, Chairman of American Art, stated: “We are excited to introduce S|2’s latest project, a tribute to the independent, powerful vision of these extraordinary artists. In a variety of innovative ways, each locates herself and her works in the natural world, the shapes and contours of her body becoming part of a topographical timelessness that links each to her environment and, ultimately, to each other. Drawing on the knowledge and expertise of Sotheby’s Fine Art Division, it is a privilege to present works by this group of artists who span the globe as well as the 20th century.”
